We're honored to have Jillian as part of our R2RY community. Here are her words from our interview: I have been practicing yoga for about 3 years, but this year I have committed to making yoga a bigger part of my life. I joined RTRY about a year and a half ago when I started going to Michelle’s classes at LA Fitness. She graciously welcomed me into her community by asking me to share my love for massage by inviting me to participate in a few of her retreats, and somehow that has turned into me joining IN on the retreats, which are amazing and awesome, and if you haven’t gone on a retreat with Michelle then you should sign up for one ASAP!! I practice yoga to bring peace and calm to my somewhat chaotic life. It helps slow everything down. I tend to go, go, go, rush, rush, rush, so it is nice to know that yoga can just be slow and steady. It has really helped me learn to go with the flow, to relax, and to breathe. Breathing is the hardest part for me, but I am learning to slow down and always come back to my breath, in more places than just on my mat. Yoga has helped me manage back pain that I have had for as long as I can remember, it has helped me in my career as a massage therapist (by slowing down, listening better to not only my breath, but the clients as well, and it has also helped me with my body mechanics), and I really just enjoy yoga, it makes me happy. It has really touched pretty much all aspects of my life. My favorite yoga pose is the low lunge, because it feels so good in my hips, involves balance, which my life and body is always in need of practice, and can turn into a great heart-opener as well! I was always taught growing up that no matter what it is, you have to at least try it once!! So give yoga a try if you haven't already! You might really, really like it!!!

R2RY is honored to have community members who inspire each other through their persistence, diligence and living the values of yoga daily. Each month we're featuring a yogi from our community both as a model of inspiration and to share our support for their journey, knowing we cross paths for a greater purpose. We’re proud to recognize one of our long-time community members, Annie Toivola, for October! Here are some words from our interview with Annie: I love yoga. I started practicing yoga 3-1/2 years ago after having not worked out for a while due to wrist and shoulder injuries. I've been with R2RY about 2-1/2 years. I practice yoga for freeing my mind and challenging my body. I don't worry about other things when I'm doing yoga. Yoga has taught me to be more grounded and calm. I don't let things upset me as much as they used too. I've learned to breathe deeper instead of holding my breath to go through a pose or situation. My favorite memory is doing yoga in Costa Rica out in beautiful surroundings with nice people. One pose I like is shoulder stand because it's an inversion and there is no stress on my wrists. I encourage people to try yoga at their own pace and just start by stretching their body. |

REviews of Root 2 Rise Yoga with Michelle chua:Michelle truly lives out what she teaches. She is so much more than a yoga teacher - I learned this when I went on her exquisitely curated trip that she organized to Costa Rica this past June 2018...Hopefully like me, you'll be delighted by her effervescent love of movement, nature, and all people! Michelle clearly stands out with her beautiful and bright energy. I love how her practice and teaching encompass body, mind and spirit. She not only teaches yoga but lives and exudes it. Michelle not only teaches 'yoga', she embodies it fully with her heart and soul... Michelle is by far one of the best instructors I've ever had, period. Patient, clear in her explanations and demos, and so encouraging... My first yoga class was with Michelle years ago. You can have the best (yoga pose) sequence and not teach from your heart. With Michelle, I also feel her passion when I'm in her class. I can see she loves what she does, and she inspired me to want to teach yoga, too. |

I'm so grateful to have met Michelle! Her kind energy opened up my interest in pursuing yoga and meditation. She is such an incredibly light and soul. She starts with grounding ourselves through mindfulness and breathing exercise. She brings the most authentic energy to the class by sharing the history and understanding behind poses, names, and techniques. I truly appreciate her work and impact on my well-being! I’ve had dozens of instructors over the years, but Michelle is far and away the best yoga mentor I’ve ever practiced with. She epitomizes grace during these difficult times. Michelle has saved my sanity and my back while working from home, keeping me grounded with her sharing of yogic teachings and meditation techniques. Her repertoire of physical asanas is encyclopedic, and I’ve loved learning new poses and stretching my boundaries. Jump in, all. You’ve got this! |
