What Does this Yoga Adventure Entail?
Nurture your adventurous global spirit journeying through Bali, Indonesia through the insightful lens of yoga. For 7 or 10 days, immerse in local life at three destinations: art and wellness town of Ubud, traditional rural village in Tabanan and peaceful beach town of Sanur. Practice daily yoga with Michelle Chua overlooking verdant rice fields and vast ocean, and enjoy a taste of ancient Balinese yoga with a local instructor. Spend your free time hiking to stunning waterfalls, strolling on the beach or savoring Balinese artistic expressions of love: exquisite cuisine, rejuvenating bodywork, entrancing traditional music and dance, mesmerizing sculptures and architecture and devotional offerings. Joined by like-minded travelers, play in infinite possibility and expand your perspective of the world and Self.
Days 1-4 in Ubud, Hub of Wellness & Art
Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, land in our peaceful sanctuary overlooking terracing rice fields and swaying palm trees. Unwind with an hour Balinese massage before dinner with your fellow travelers and relaxing evening yoga. Our villa property includes a sauna, jacuzzi, chlorine-free swimming pool, yoga shala and open-air dining surrounded by lush nature. Only 15 minutes leisurely stroll to Ubud’s town center, enjoy your free time visiting the art market, temples, vast array of restaurants, Sacred Monkey Forest, Ubud Palace and spa and wellness centers. Invigorate your senses with the cultural vibrancy of Ubud, and rest in the serenity of our retreat grounds.
Days 4-6 in a Rural Village in Tabanan
About 90 minutes drive northwest of Ubud, discover a small traditional village in rural Tabanan. Nestled in tranquil nature and warm community, our eco-conscious retreat center aims to share ancient customs and promote harmony with nature through simple lifestyle. Comfortable individual villas spread throughout rice paddies and nature trails surrounding the village temple, classic homes, an open-air yoga shala and our community dining area. Experience age-old Balinese yoga and meditation from a local teacher and choose a part of the culture to explore on your free time: visit the village healer, care for the rice fields, cook Balinese cuisine, play a traditional musical instrument, learn Balinese dance or language and more. Allow nature’s pace and simple living to deepen your connection to Bali and her magic.
Days 6-7 or 10 in Sanur Beach Town
About 90 minutes drive southeast of Tabanan, balance a slower-paced lifestyle with modern Bali in the seaside town of Sanur. Residing about 20 minutes walk to the beach and numerous restaurants, spas, shops and nightlife, delight in serenity and luxury at our local family-run contemporary hotel with swimming pool. Choose to stay for our 10-day retreat and join a 45-minute boat trip to Nusa Penida, for a day of exploring pristine beaches. Integrate Bali’s unique flavors into your expanded life perspective as you seal your journey with a nourishing spa treatment before flying home.

Michelle's retreat for Bali 2019 was nothing short of magical. She managed to capture the perfect balance of structure and flexibility in planning. Not only were we doing yoga, meditating and spending time in nature, we really got immersed in the culture and learned from the locals directly. I appreciated this component so much, and it does set Root 2 Rise Yoga apart from the rest in my opinion. Michelle is a skillful and soulful leader and puts together very thoughtful programs and retreats. Could not recommend her or Root 2 Rise Yoga enough. So grateful!
--Kimberly Rose Irving (Bali 2019 Retreat)
My husband and I had an amazing time in Bali last May going with Michelle’s Root 2 Rise Yoga Group. We went to 3 different cities and each site was a different experience. We got to see the culture, the beautiful countryside, dance, enjoy vegetarian food, do yoga at the beach and hike...(thanks to) Michelle's planning beforehand. Bring an umbrella!
