Retreat in Bali
May 27-June 2 or 5, 2019
When you do things from your soul you feel a river moving in you, a joy.
-Rumi
Read about your retreat host, Michelle Chua, here. In 2017, she visited Bali to research and appreciate it firsthand, in response to Root 2 Rise Yoga community's request to have a retreat there, after 4 years of successful yoga retreats in Costa Rica.

Day 1-4
Arrive at an award-winning eco-luxury retreat center in the quaint art village of Sukawati in southern West Bali. Adjacent to tranquil rice fields and 20-minutes walking distance from the beach, unwind from travel with a Balinese foot massage and a welcome dinner with traditional dancers and musicians. We'll enjoy an introduction to Balinese culture, visit a local sacred temple, participate in a purification ceremony, learn to make floral offerings, take a village painting tour, shop at an artisan market, participate in community outreach and practice daily yoga, mindfulness and meditation with your retreat host, Michelle Chua. Our in-house Balinese chef will prepare delicious community meals three times daily, with an on-site swimming pool and spa services (at additional cost) available for your free-time exploration. |
Just got back from the 2016 Costa Rica Retreat and cannot say enough good things about the experience. Michelle is an amazing woman & I would not hesitate to travel under her guidance again. She was able to provide a warm, fun loving and educational retreat that made me feel like a part of the community we visited and not just a tourist "using" this beautiful country. I can't wait for next year...

Day 4-6
We'll ride to and stay in a rural traditional village off-the-beaten path in the region of Tabanan, about 90 minutes away, at a retreat center. Surrounded by tropical nature and rice fields, we’ll enjoy homemade traditional meals three times daily, practice yoga and meditation alternately with Michelle and a traditional Balinese local yoga instructor. We’ll soak in hot springs and choose optional retreat inclusions, such as visiting the village healer, swimming at a nearby waterfall, practicing yoga at the beach or learning traditional music, dance, cooking or how to care for the rice fields. With a slower simpler lifestyle close to Mother Nature, we'll dive deeper into our mindfulness practice and the liberating yogic virtue of non-attachment. On your free time, play outside with nature walks and conversing with local villagers or simply sit and breathe in the beauty of life. |
Balinese fusion lunch at a restaurant in Ubud
|
Day 6 through 7 or 10
Landing in the art and spiritual center of Ubud, after about 60 minutes of travel, we'll stay in a bed and breakfast in the heart of town. We'll have plenty of time to explore freely, located within walking distance from art museums, markets, restaurants, temples, spas, rice fields, nature and adventure tours, cultural entertainment and classes, creative cafes and more. Morning Hike + Meditation with Michelle along the scenic Campuhan Ridge will constitute our group yoga practice. Breakfast and our farewell dinner at a local restaurant will be provided. If you're staying for the 10-day retreat, we'll ride on a day trip about 2 hours north to the infamous Sekumpal Waterfalls to enjoy hiking and swimming, and you'll indulge in a second group dinner to say farewell to our 7-day fellow travelers. |
REviews of Root 2 Rise Yoga with Michelle chua:Michelle truly lives out what she teaches. She is so much more than a yoga teacher - I learned this when I went on her exquisitely curated trip that she organized to Costa Rica this past June 2018...Hopefully like me, you'll be delighted by her effervescent love of movement, nature, and all people! Michelle clearly stands out with her beautiful and bright energy. I love how her practice and teaching encompass body, mind and spirit. She not only teaches yoga but lives and exudes it. Michelle not only teaches 'yoga', she embodies it fully with her heart and soul... Michelle is by far one of the best instructors I've ever had, period. Patient, clear in her explanations and demos, and so encouraging... My first yoga class was with Michelle years ago. You can have the best (yoga pose) sequence and not teach from your heart. With Michelle, I also feel her passion when I'm in her class. I can see she loves what she does, and she inspired me to want to teach yoga, too. |
Let's connect:I'm so grateful to have met Michelle! Her kind energy opened up my interest in pursuing yoga and meditation. She is such an incredibly light and soul. She starts with grounding ourselves through mindfulness and breathing exercise. She brings the most authentic energy to the class by sharing the history and understanding behind poses, names, and techniques. I truly appreciate her work and impact on my well-being! I’ve had dozens of instructors over the years, but Michelle is far and away the best yoga mentor I’ve ever practiced with. She epitomizes grace during these difficult times. Michelle has saved my sanity and my back while working from home, keeping me grounded with her sharing of yogic teachings and meditation techniques. Her repertoire of physical asanas is encyclopedic, and I’ve loved learning new poses and stretching my boundaries. Jump in, all. You’ve got this! |
